The Province of Barletta Andria Trani was instituted on 11 June 2004, in accordance with Italian Law No. 148/2004, together with the provinces of Fermo and Monza Brianza.
Its abbreviation, BT, was inserted in the official register of laws by means of a Presidential Decree passed on 15 February 2006.
The legal headquarters of the new province has been designated as the city ofAndria, whereas the offices of the President, the Executive Committee and the Provincial Council are based in the city of Barletta.
Trani is the provincial centre for legal, financial, cultural and scientific affairs, as well as the principal tourist centre, thanks to the presence of the Provincial Headquarters of the Carabinieri, the High Court and the offices dealing with culture, sport and tourism.
